The first chapter of Britney Spears’ upcoming memoir has been released.
On October 24, the singer, 41, will release her highly anticipated tell-all book, and nothing will be off-limits, with the Toxic hitmaker detailing everything from her 13-year conservatorship to her affair with Justin Timberlake.
Britney finally posted a brief excerpt from her memoir, The Woman in Me, on social media on Sunday, along with a disturbing observation about the reality of fame.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, the Hit Me Baby One More Time crooner posted a video of text taken from The Woman in Me and at one point said that being famous felt as though she was ‘living on the edge of a cliff’.
The first preview of Britney’s memoir read in full: ‘I envy people who know how to make fame work.
‘My demeanour was innocent. It wasn’t an act. I didn’t know what I was doing.’
Britney went on: ‘I felt like I was living on the edge of a cliff.’
The A-lister, who divorced husband Sam Asghari last summer, also had a message for admirers who joined the #FreeBritney effort to terminate her conservatorship.
Britney was placed under conservatorship, which allowed her father Jamie to make personal, business, and financial choices for her.
Britney wrote: ‘If you stood up for me when I couldn’t stand up for myself, thank you.’
Meanwhile, a source stated on Tuesday that Britney’s family “fears” the publishing of her biography in two weeks could cause a “dangerous mental health meltdown.”
A family insider insisted to the Sun that Britney ‘doesn’t have a clue about how her words are about to be blown up around the world’.
Britney would be ‘too emotional’ to read the book aloud, so actress Michelle Williams has been charged with narrating the audio version.
Of the decision, Britney said: ‘This book has been a labour of love and all the emotions that come with it. Reliving everything has been exciting, heart-wrenching, and emotional, to say the least.
‘For those reasons, I will only be reading a small part of my audiobook. I am so grateful to the amazing Michelle Williams for reading the rest of it.’
