Busy Philipps recalled the horrifying time she witnessed her baby having a seizure while on FaceTime.
Birdie, the former Dawson’s Creek actress’s 15-year-old kid with ex-husband Marc Silverstein, attends boarding school in Sweden.
So, when calamity hit, a scared Busy, 44, had to watch her medical emergency unfold from afar.
Speaking on her Busy Philipps Is Doing Her Best podcast, she said: ‘I was just kind of, like, muttering to myself and then I heard Marc screaming for me and I was like, “What does this guy want now?”
‘And I went upstairs but then I heard his voice and I knew something was really wrong. And he just said, “It’s Birdie, it’s Birdie. She’s had another seizure. The paramedics are on the phone.”
‘The paramedics were on FaceTime and she had just come out of the seizure and she was still in the post-aura state. They were like, hooking her up with stuff and on FaceTime.’
Birdie and her friend had left school to go to the cinema in Stockholm and Busy recalled how ‘terrifying’ it was to see her ‘just reaching’.
She added that her daughter’s friend who was with her was ‘holding the phone’ making for ‘this weird medium shot.’
‘You could see everything that was happening. So it felt, it was just so weird.’
She added that Birdie was ‘reaching toward the camera’ and ‘calling out’ for her.
The teen was saying: ‘Mama. Mama. Mama. Where are you? Mama.’
Busy then commended Sarah, her daughter’s friend, for taking responsibility of the frightening situation.
‘Birdie’s friend Sarah, shout out Sarah, literally, I don’t even understand. She’s 17 but this girl managed to get one person to go tell the theatre, to shut it down, she got two guys that they obviously didn’t know, that were sitting behind, because Birdie started choking and throwing up, to move Birdie gently to the ground and put her on her side. She got someone else to call the Swedish 911.’
Following the tragedy, Busy, Marc, and their 11-year-old daughter, Cricket, boarded the first aircraft out of New York bound for Sweden, while friend Sarah stayed overnight in the hospital with Birdie.
When the girl was given the all-clear, she was discharged and returned to the United States.
Busy, who has 11-year-old Cricket with Mark, revealed it wasn’t the first time she couldn’t be with Birdie because she had a seizure.
The girl had previously fainted on the set of her next film, Mean Girls, on the first day of production.
Unable to leave the set, Busy told how Marc ‘had sprinted to the school’ and arrived at the same time as the paramedics.
‘It was really awful seeing it on a screen, being in a different country across an ocean,’ Busy added.
