Kelsey Parker has claimed that her daughter Aurelia speaks about her late husband Tom Parker in an unexpected way after being ‘honest’ with her children about their father’s death.
The Wanted singer died in May of last year at the age of 33 after being diagnosed with an inoperable brain cancer.
The late musician married his wife Kelsey in 2018, and the pair had two children together: a girl named Aurelia in 2019, and a boy named Bodhi in 2020.
Kelsey has opened up on how she talks to her children about their father’s death in a new podcast interview with Vicky Pattison, saying how vital she believes it is to tell them the truth.
‘The one bit of advice I can give is just be honest. I just think that’s everything that you talk to your children about. I think honesty is the best policy,’ she said on The Secret To podcast, with her episode being titled The Secret To Dealing with Grief.
‘I just was really matter of fact and I said, “Your dad has died. He’s not coming back. And he’s now going to be with the angels and we’ve just got to get on with life.”’
Kelsey then said that she and her daughter were at a party over the weekend where the girl was freely discussing her father’s death.
‘Even like at the weekend, Aurelia was saying to me… we were at a party, and I don’t know, she must have been… ‘cause she likes to tell people, which I’m fine with. You tell everyone,’ she said.
Kelsey then added: ‘She does it a bit of a mic drop, like, “My dad’s dead.” And everyone’s like…’
At this statement, Vicky couldn’t help but put a hand over her mouth in astonishment, before responding: ‘So sorry mate, but kids are so savage, aren’t they!’
Several people commented on the post with messages of support for Kelsey, with one reading: ‘So inspiring ❤️,’ and another person describing her as ‘amazing’.
Kelsey also commented underneath the video posted by Vicky from the podcast interview on Instagram, writing: ‘Thank you for having me ❤️ xxx.’
The family celebrated their second Father’s Day without Tom earlier this year.
Speaking in June, Kelsey said: ‘Father’s Day was a tough one for us as a family last year.
‘I think I was still on autopilot and trying to get through each day. It was Tom’s day and he wasn’t here to celebrate with us and that was obviously very hard.’
In his honour, she created the Tom Parker Celebrity Football Match this year to collect funds for the Ahead of the Game Foundation.
