Good Morning Britain host Martin Lewis has hit back at claims he took a ‘swipe’ at former EastEnders actress Maisie Smith during her appearance on the ITV daytime show.
Maisie, who recently took part in Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, was discussing her stint undertaking the gruelling and brutal challenges that contestants are put through, one of which resulted in her having a black eye.
Ahead of chatting to Martin and Susanna Reid in the GMB studio alongside Strictly Come Dancing’s Kevin Clifton, the Money Saving Expert founder commented: ‘I love that programme, but why would anyone do it?’
It was later reported that Martin’s comments were taking a ‘swipe’ at Maisie, although he later clarified on Twitter that he did no such thing.
‘I didn’t take a swipe at anyone’ Martin penned.
I didnt take a swipe at anyone!

Maisie has previously recalled how she got her black eye after a ‘crazy’ cat fight with Ferne McCann during filming the series, which left her worried that her eye sockets were ‘broken’.
During one task, the pair were set against each other and made to fight.
‘They went, “Go,” and I wasn’t expecting her to just go crazy. But she literally just went, “Agh,” and just screamed. I think she shut her eyes, screamed and just went crazy,’ Maisie recalled.
She continued to The Sun: ‘I thought, “OK. I need to step up my game”. I was going for a solid minute with just screaming and punching, like a proper cat fight.’
‘I got a couple of good punches in. It wasn’t like a normal boxing ring. It was nonstop.’
This comes after Maisie opened up about how SAS helped her with her confidence struggles, which she’s faced since her exit from EastEnders.
The actress, now 21, landed the role of Tiffany Butcher in the BBC soap when she was just six-years-old, and played the mouthy madam for 13 years, leaving in 2014 before returning in 2018.
However, playing the much-loved character for such a long time has had an impact on Maisie, as playing Tiff is all she has known.
Speaking on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, the Strictly Come Dancing star admitted: ‘I was on Eastenders for 13 years, which was all I can remember. I sometimes think I’m more comfortable being Tiffany than I am being Maisie.’
She added: ‘The good thing about being an actress is that I know how to look confident. In reality I have no idea what I’m doing.’
Maisie later became tearful as she recalled her childhood and always being around adults who were much older than her, saying that she ‘struggled’ to speak sometimes, as people would always talk over her and ‘undermine’ her.
‘I’ve struggled, sort of, speaking,’ she confessed to the Directing Staff, adding: ‘And I’ve had, not a stutter but I just could go blank and words wouldn’t come out and I think the more that happened, the more people would just, sort of, talk over me.’
She described it as a ‘horrible feeling’ as she was unable to ‘find a single word.’
The tearful star added: ‘I found it pretty hard and I just hated the person I was for a long time.
‘The reason I worked so hard and pushed myself was because the one thing I can’t control is the thing I’m most scared of.’
