Phillip Schofield has cleared the air on the Queue Gate incident, claiming he was’shell-shocked’ by it.
His remarks follow a shocking interview this evening in which the former This Morning host refuted claims of grooming.
Last year, Phillip and Holly Willoughby faced much criticism for allegedly’skipping’ the queue to view the late Queen laying in state.
They were eventually coerced into making an on-air apology to thousands of enraged viewers on This Morning.
Phillip told tonight how the incident affected both him and Holly.
He told the Sun: ’I don’t ever throw anyone under the bus, but I have a very good instinct for these things and I knew it was a bad thing to do.
‘We were texting each other backwards and forwards afterwards. I said to Holly, “I knew I should have gone with my gut,” and she said, “I know”.’
‘But we were shell-shocked, the both of us, completely shell-shocked by the reaction.
‘What are the two things you don’t screw up? The Queen and a queue.’
Phillip went on to clarify that there had been no queue-skipping.
He continued to the Sun: ‘There was no jumping of the queue. We went and spoke to everyone in the queue. We went out and met everyone in the queue then walked all the way around the building, and went into the press centre with your accreditation.
‘That got messed up because the production team didn’t want to give either of our emails out, so they used work emails which obviously didn’t match up with who we are.’
Phillip also stated that the Queue Gate affair did not contribute to the breakdown of his and Holly’s relationship.
He instead revealed that their friendship had suffered as a result of his brother Timothy’s conviction in a child sex assault trial.
Phillip spoke up for the first time after admitting to an affair with a considerably younger male colleague at This Morning in a candid interview with the Sun tonight.
He had the affair while married to his wife and before coming out as homosexual in 2020.
Schofield, 61, resigned from ITV with ‘immediate effect’ after lying about the connection, apologising to his family, colleagues, and superiors.
Since his tell-all declaration was delivered to the Daily Mail last week, he has kept a low profile, publishing only one Instagram Story and living with his mother in Cornwall.
Phillip also apologised to Holly Willoughby in tonight’s interview for lying about his affair.
