Sam Thompson is sure that the ‘Strictly curse’ will not have an impact on his relationship with Zara McDermott.
The former Love Island star, 26, was confirmed earlier this month as one of the prominent names joining the line-up for the new season of the BBC dancing series.
Zara, the first Islander to be signed for the programme, claimed she grew up watching Strictly ‘every year’ with her nan, who was a major fan.
However, with recent disclosures that previous competitor John Whaite ‘fell in love’ with his professional partner Johannes Radebe while participating on the programme, suspicions regarding the show’s curse have arisen once more.
Despite the fact that their relationship has been shaken by adultery in the past, former Made in Chelsea actress Sam, 31, is unconcerned.
Zara had an affair with music entrepreneur Brahim Fouradi during her stint on X Factor: Celebrity, and the couple temporarily split three years ago.
‘She was 22… so f***ing young,’ Sam said.
‘You know when you look at them and you go, “She ain’t going to do that again” I could see in her face.
“You can just tell when someone has a beautiful heart and a beautiful soul and just f***ed up,’ he added when speaking to The Mirror.
Sam has admitted to cheating on women in the past, but claims to be committed to documentary filmmaker Zara.
He added: ‘You’d be some w***er to have done it yourself and can’t forgive.’
Zara, who dated fellow Islander Adam Collard before meeting Sam via Instagram, addressed the cheating at the time, saying: ‘Sometimes you have to be vulnerable and hold your hands up and own your mistakes. You have to say, “I messed up and I’m incredibly sorry”.’
Almost a dozen couples have split up after signing up for Strictly Come Dancing over the span of 20 seasons.
While John’s long-term boyfriend Paul Atkins ‘spent some time apart’ after recognising his emotions for Johannes, the two have remained friends.
This week, the professional dancer detailed how they had a ‘wonderful time’ together and that, while their bond was platonic, they would be ‘friends for life’.
Strictly Come Dancing is streaming on BBC iPlayer.
