Following its revival on Netflix, a new Suits series is apparently in the works.
The courtroom thriller, starring Patrick J Adams as attorney Michael Ross and Meghan Markle as Rachel Zane, returned to the streaming platform this summer and was a smash hit.
The programme initially ran on the USA Network from 2011 to 2019, with UK audiences catching up on Dave, and now it appears like a resurrection is in the works.
As reported by Deadline, creator Aaron Korsh is working on a new series for NBCUniversal, and it’s expected the project will be ‘fast-tracked with a serious commitment’.
The new programme is reported to be situated in Los Angeles and will not be a standard reboot or spin-off.
Instead, the programme would be situated in the Suits world but would feature new characters in a different setting, much like the CSI and NCIS series.
Creator Korsh was ecstatic with Suits’ resurgence on Netflix, and he conceded that he, too, may have ‘underestimated’ the show.
‘I always thought we were underestimated, but it turns out, even I underestimated #Suits,’ he wrote on X (formerly Twitter). ‘It’s good to be the King.’
Meghan Markle, now the Duchess of Sussex, featured on seven seasons of the programme before leaving in 2018 to marry Prince Harry, whom she had met two years previously.
Several of her co-stars were present for the wedding at St George’s Chapel, and fellow actor Patrick has previously protected her from online harassment after she and her husband stepped down from their senior royal positions in 2020.
In January 2022, he wrote: ‘Hello to the people and many bots debating all things Markle and including me in the conversation.
‘I just want you to know a couple of things. 1. I don’t read any of it. 2. Life is short. 3. There has to got to be better things for you to be doing. Even you, bots. #botbetter’
He also stood by her after she was accused of bullying in March 2021, describing her as ‘kind’ and ‘cooperative’ on set.
He said: ‘Meghan Markle and I spent the better part of a decade working together on Suits.
‘From day one she was an enthusiastic, kind, cooperative, giving, joyful and supportive member of our television family. She remained that person and colleague as fame, prestige and power accrued.’
