It was the end of the road for The Traitors contestant Andrea in scenes that aired on Wednesday night, with the retiree becoming the latest player to be murdered.
The 72-year-old, who was hailed a gay icon after opening up about her 26-year relationship, was killed off by Wilf Webster and his new partner in crime Kieran, who joined the dark side after being recruited at the beginning of the episode.
Andrea was cut up after she read aloud her letter confirming her devastating fate.
‘What a pleasure to have had a chance at my age,’ she told the camera. ‘Thank you so much.’
Although she expressed her desire to have finished the game, Andrea added that she had learned a lot from the experience as a whole.
‘For me, one of the big lessons in this is we can all have a go,’ she said. ‘We won’t all succeed but we can all have a go and if we all try our best, we will personally have all succeeded.’
She then began to choke up, as she concluded: ‘What a pleasure to have had this chance at my age to do this. Thank you so much. I’ve loved it.’
Viewers were in pieces over Andrea’s farewell and rushed to social media to express their upset.
‘Omg not me crying at Andrea’s murder,’ wrote one, while another said: ‘Andrea has broken me I’m sat here sobbing.’
Over the course of her journey on The Traitors, Andrea formed a close bond with fellow Faithful, Amos.
Amos recently told Metro.co.uk of the exact moment he knew he was going to be friends with Andrea.
‘The thing about Andrea is, she got such a nice edit!’ he told us. ‘She is so potty-mouthed! Half of the reason why she’s not in the first few episodes is because of everything she said.’
He continued: ‘We bonded instantly because of the fact that, when we were on the train, I was with her for the journey, it was a couple of hours and they were filming us.’
The Traitors concludes on Thursday at 9pm on BBC On.e
