In a pleasant surprise, pop artist Duffy has given her fans something to cheer about by posting on her Instagram profile for the first time in three years.
The 39-year-old Welsh singer-songwriter and actress, whose true name is Aimée Duffy, sprang to prominence in early 2008 with the international hit Mercy.
Her debut album, Rockferry, sold over two million copies in the UK and earned her three Brit Awards and a Grammy for best pop vocal.
However, Duffy vanished from the music industry in 2011, with a planned third album shelved and many tour performances abruptly cancelled.
In 2020, after years of quiet, she disclosed in a personal blog post that she withdrew from the music industry in 2011 after being abducted and kept prisoner in an unknown area, where she was repeatedly drugged and raped by an unknown individual.

Now, four years on, the Warwick Avenue hitmaker has made a cryptic but welcome return to social media, posting a short video clip to her Instagram page, immediately alerting her 180k followers.
In the video, a voice says: ‘You’re going to realise it one day that happiness was never about your job or your degree or being in a relationship [or] following in the footsteps of all of those who came before you.’
The voice continues: ‘It was never about being like the others… Happiness was always about the discovery, the hope, the listening to your heart, and following it wherever it chose to go. [It] was always about being kinder to yourself.
‘It was always about embracing the person you were becoming… learning to live with yourself. Your happiness was never in the hands of others. One day you will realise that true happiness comes from within.
‘And no external factors can define it. It was always about you.’
The monologue comes from Bianca Sparacino’s 2017 book, The Strength in Our Scars, which is about personal healing and encouragement.
In the comments, fans were delighted to see that Duffy had resurfaced. User Sio said: ‘We miss you Duffy. We love you and hope and wish you are happy, fulfilled and where your heart wants you to be.’
Another fan, Danielle, from Duffy’s home country of Wales, commented: ‘So much love from Wales. We are all behind you Duffy. One day I hope to get to celebrate your achievements.’
Duffy said in her 2020 blog post that she was forced to take time off to heal after being ‘raped, drugged, and held captive’ by currently unknown people in an unidentified country.
She said at the time: ‘The truth is, and please trust me I am ok and safe now, I was raped and drugged and held captive over some days. Of course I survived. The recovery took time. There’s no light way to say it.’
Shortly after re-entering the spotlight, the Rockferry singer, who also starred in a Diet Coke commercial, released a new single titled River in the Sky, but has since gone silent.
