Blue Lights fans have been enjoying the second season of the ‘terrific’ crime drama, but they are concerned that it will end with a gruesome twist.
The latest episode of the BBC series follows response officers as they deal with the psychological effects of relentless and punishing police work in Belfast, a city rife with drugs and street crime.
Critics have compared Blue Lights, starring Siân Brooke, Katherine Devlin, and Nathan Braniff, to Line of Duty, and it has captivated viewers with its accurate portrayal of society.
The police procedural returned to linear channel BBC One last night, with many fans saying they were resisting ‘bingeing’ the entire series, which was available on iPlayer.
Despite the festivities, some were concerned that a devastating moment from season one would occur again. Gerry (Richard Dormer), a fan favourite, was brutally and unexpectedly shot dead by local gangster Sully (Art Campion) while on routine patrol.
Now, viewers believe another popular character could be killed off in season two as @Hughesy53 said on X: #BlueLights – brilliant start to series 2 but as with all these hard hitting dramas, I worry that the scriptwriters will kill off a favourite again…’
Others were simply relieved to tune into Blue Lights’ return with @ChrisPopeWrites exclaiming: ‘BEST CRIME DRAMA – EVER.’
Echoing their sentiment, @milominder added: ‘#BlueLights picking up where it left off in season one. Smashing characters, crackling pace, dead witty script, high tension and mirth in quick succession. That hour fair flew by. Terrific.’
@NomadicWriter also said: ‘Tense complicated relationships, great plotting, nice pacing, wicked dialogue and clearly defined characters – #BlueLights has it all.’

There's no hidden agenda in this great series. Good police officers live in fear while trying to protect their communities from criminals and a community who don't trust the police for the right reasons. This is a reflection of society and no conspiracy theories.#BlueLights pic.twitter.com/HI6dwI0jJ5

Unfortunately for fans, Siân, who plays social worker turned probationary PSNI officer Grace Ellis, has hinted that more major character deaths may occur in season 2.
She told the Radio Times: ‘After series 1 with Gerry – you just don’t know what’s going to happen.
‘If I had a pound for every time someone said, “Why did they kill off Gerry?” and, “Are Stevie [Martin McCann] and Grace going to get together?”, I would be a millionaire!
‘When series 2 landed on our laps we were all looking through it, thinking, am I going to survive? But you’ll have to wait and see!’
Blue Lights is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
